RICHMOND (CBS SF)- A decommissioned Navy tug boat that is sinking near Richmond has caused an oili spill, the US Coast Guard said Sunday night. Woman, 62, survives six days on remote beach after boat capsizes
(Times Colonist) A coast guard officer said it's amazing a 62-year-old Courtenay woman
was able to survive being stranded nearly a week on a rugged beach on
Haida Gwaii's Graham Island after her boat capsized.
Her 66-year-old male partner, a commercial fisherman from Courtenay identified by family as Fred Wydenes, is missing and presumed drowned.
Town to appeal Champlin's decision
(Block Island Times) Despite a favorable Coastal Resources Management Council decision in
the Champlin’s Marina expansion application, the Town Council voted to
appeal a portion of that decision at its Wednesday meeting.
A specific provision in the recently released written decision creates a 300-foot channel around all the marinas in New Harbor and would force the town to completely redesign its mooring fields and possibly lose some of its lucrative moorings. READ MORE
Coast Guard responds to whale watchers injured by wave
(USCG) The Coast Guard responded to a report of injuries aboard a whale watching boat in Provincetown, Mass., May 16, 2011.
The crew of the 106-foot boat, Whale Watcher, from Barnstable, Mass., notified Coast Guard Station Provincetown at 10:23 a.m., that five high school students suffered injuries after a 5-7 foot wave struck the bow of the vessel during a whale watching tour about five miles north of Race Point, Mass.
