Mustang Issues Recall on PFDs

(Trade Only Today) The Coast Guard has issued a safety alert urging boaters to check their Mustang Survival PFDs.  Mustang Survival is voluntarily recalling all model number MD2010 and MD2012 inflatable PFDs sold in the United States this year. The recall is being issued for the inspection and repair of an inflator installation inconsistency that may prevent some units from fully inflating with carbon dioxide, although oral inflation functions normally.  READ MORE

 

World's oceans in 'shocking' decline

The oceans are in a worse state than previously suspected, according to an expert panel of scientists.

In a new report, they warn that ocean life is "at high risk of entering a phase of extinction of marine species unprecedented in human history".

They conclude that issues such as over-fishing, pollution and climate change are acting together in ways that have not previously been recognised.

The impacts, they say, are already affecting humanity. READ MORE

Narragansett Bay Achieves Great Waters Status

(Windcheck) The America’s Great Waters Coalition has named Narragansett Bay one of America’s Great Waters, recognizing its ecological, economic and cultural importance to the region. Save The Bay, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, restoring and exploring the bay and its watershed, applied for this national designation in 2010.

Japanese dive tourist ‘struck in face by propeller’: Police

(Phucket Gazette) Hitomi Shibata, the Japanese tourist who died while on a dive tour off Koh Racha yesterday, was struck in the face by the propeller of the dive boat she was with, police told the Phuket Gazette today. “From our initial investigation, Miss Hitomi was diving with her dive instructor and a friend when they saw her suddenly start to rise to the surface,” said Chalong Police Duty Officer Attawat Suwannarat.
